Hello!

I’m Tayler, the dyer, maker, and creative mind behind Fiber for the People®, a one-woman small-batch yarn dye studio. I create thoughtfully crafted, hand-dyed yarn for knitters, makers, and fiber enthusiasts who care about quality, intention, and the story behind what’s in their hands.

At the heart of my shop…

…is the BORN SHORN DYED yarn base—a sport/light DK weight, 2-ply yarn (340 yards/100 grams) made from 100% Nevada-born and shorn Merino Rambouillet. This yarn comes from the Dufurrena Sheep Company, a family-run ranch in the mountains and foothills of Northern Nevada. The Dufurrena family carries on the rich Basque tradition of sheep ranching, raising sheep that produce exceptional fleece—fleece that carries the spirit of this land.

The wool is milled by Mountain Meadow Wool, a small, family-owned mill in Buffalo, Wyoming, and made available through partnership with Lovely Valley Wool, owned by Magen Dufurrena. I’m proud to collaborate with Magen to bring this regionally local yarn to life through color.

Why Small-Batch?

I dye every skein by hand, in truly small batches, on my own timeline. I don’t believe in rushing this work. Each colorway is created with care—whether inspired by the natural world, an image, a mood, or a fleeting creative spark.

Working in this way means the shop operates a little differently. Rather than scheduled updates, I dye and list yarn as it’s ready. Colorways rotate in regularly, but there are no guarantees they’ll return. What’s here today may be gone tomorrow—and that’s part of the beauty of small-batch yarn.

Beyond the Dye Pots.

Fiber for the People® is just one part of my creative world. I also host the Wool Needles Hands podcast, where I share bits of shop news alongside honest conversations about the creative process, the fiber arts, and this beautiful, strange, wonderful life of making things by hand.

If you enjoy behind-the-scenes glimpses—the real, unpolished moments of this work—you’ll find that on the Wool Needles Hands Patreon, where, in addition to knitting and crafty content, I share dye days, color development, and, occasionally, the day-to-day reality of running this small creative business.

Thank You!

This work is deeply personal. I believe that how we make matters. Where our materials come from matters. And I believe that the act of making—stitch by stitch, loop by loop—is one of the most meaningful things we can do.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for choosing to support small business, regional wool, and the kind of craft that keeps hands busy and hearts full. Your stitches are now part of this story, too.
